Case Study: Steven
Steven McDonnell, 16, took a very big step towards getting his dream job when he decided to begin an apprenticeship in Finance with First Ark.
Gaining First Hand Experience
Steven had always wanted to be an accountant, however he didn’t really feel that college or sixth form would be a very good fit for him. He wanted to gain first-hand experience whilst studying at the same time.
Through a family friend, Steven discovered that he could do this through an apprenticeship. Now, he’s employed by First Ark, working with Accounts Payable in the finance department. He’s responsible for daily supplier statements and reconciles, processing invoices and providing rent refunds.
Putting Studies Into Practice
While having all this responsibility, Steven is also studying his Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate, which he really enjoys. He likes it because he can mix his first hand experience with education, and dealing with real life situations, rather than just learning from a text book. He feels that there is no better way to reinforce his learning than putting it into practice day in and day out.
Following on from his apprenticeship, which he hopes to complete by September 2017, he wishes to continue his career in accounting and go on to gain an accounting qualification, such as CIMA or ACCA.
